Copper Toxicity in Capsicum annuum: Superoxide Dismutase and Catalase Activities, Phenolic and Protein Amounts of in-vitro-Grown Plants

چکیده
To determine some physiological and biochemical changes in Capsicum annuum L. grown in vitro, the effects of different Cu concentrations on this plant were investigated. Cu was applied in the form of Cu sulfate (CuSO4) in three levels (0, 0.1, and 0.2 mM) and at three times (days 8, 10, and 12). With Cu treatments, superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) activities, and total phenolic compound amounts increased compared to the control. The protein amount gradually declined with increasing Cu concentrations. This study demonstrated that Capsicum annuum L. is quite tolerant of Cu and mobilizes catalase, superoxide dismutase, and phenolic compounds in order to mitigate Cu-stress damage.

Effects of phosphorus on antioxidant system in pepper cultivars under saline conditions.
Salinity is one of the most severe abiotic stresses in one-half of all irrigated lands, causing negative effects on physiological, biochemical, and molecular responses in plants. Application of chemical fertilizers, particularly phosphorus (P) fertilizers, may reduce harmful effects of salinity. In this study, an investigation was performed on the effects of exogenous application of different l...

Rootstocks of fruit trees, commonly used to regulate growth, precocity, fertility, and yield, can also be used to solve problems associated with soils pollution such as copper excess. Despite their potential use for phytoremediation, information on the physiological, biochemical, and molecular aspects of heavy metal toxicity stress on fruit tree rootstocks remains limited. In this study of Prun...

To elucidate how physiological and biochemical mechanisms of chilling stress are regulated by abscisic acid (ABA) pretreatment, pepper variety (cv. 'P70') seedlings were pretreated with 0.57 mM ABA for 72 h and then subjected to chilling stress at 10°/6°C (day/night). Chilling stress caused severe necrotic lesions on the leaves and increased malondialdehyde and H(2)O(2) levels. Activities of mo...
متن کاملBiphasic effect of copper on growth, proline, lipid peroxidation and antioxidant enzyme activities of wheat (Triticum aestivum cv. Hasaawi) at early growing stage
The biphasic effects of Cu on the growth and some biochemical parameters of Hassawi wheat were studied. Hassawi wheat seeds were grown in various copper (Cu) levels (0, 2, 10, 20, 40, 80 and 100 mM) for 30 days. Cu was applied on soil as Cu2SO4.5H2O. The results showed that Cu concentration at 2 mM level promotes the growth and tested biochemical parameters of Hassawi wheat plants and can be co...
